Championing the Unconventional Teacher Through Course Creation.

There’s a reason we’ve always associated teachers with classrooms—they’ve long been the preferred location for education! It wasn’t always that way, though. Learning used to take place in homes, around the fire, or even in communities, where stories and experiences were used to transmit information. The need for more structured education arose as civilisations expanded and life became more complicated, and the classroom was the answer! The beauty of community-based learning is still very much alive in Africa, despite the fact that official classrooms have taken centre stage for structured learning. This shows that teaching isn’t always limited to four walls.

It’s never been more thrilling to see how the traditional job of a teacher is changing—let’s face it! Anyone with a special talent and a desire to contribute can educate the globe thanks to the internet. Everyday individuals are now teachers thanks to the digital domain, whether it’s through makeup tutorials, fashion advice, music lessons, dance techniques, or even plant care instructions. The days of a teacher’s podium being restricted to a classroom are long gone. Nowadays, you can learn about anything—not only the experts—from YouTube in-depths to TikTok trends. The world is more than willing to listen to what everyone has to teach! The wonders of technology have made education more lively and approachable for both the instructor and student. What are you going to teach today, then?

Nearly 12 million new graduates are produced in Uganda each year, but the labor market can only employ 4 million of them, leaving many highly trained people underemployed or unable to find employment at all. Even among those who are lucky enough to land a job, many still struggle with the issue of not having the 21st-century skills necessary to succeed in the quickly changing workplace of today. Even though many graduates have a strong academic background, many struggle to succeed in the contemporary workplace due to a lack of essential skills including digital literacy, flexibility, and problem-solving. This discrepancy between education and job preparation emphasises the urgent need for training and upskilling programs that can give Uganda’s workforce the skills they need to thrive in the global economy.

Teesa wants to support the unconventional teachers—those who will develop local answers to local issues, generating real community impact. We believe that when people share their knowledge, abilities, and experiences in creative ways, education can have a transforming effect. To us, this is a sort of evangelism, not simply education; by enabling one individual to reach one, we generate a chain reaction that disseminates information and is transformative potentially globally. A more knowledgeable and connected society results from everyone being a teacher, which has an exceptionally greater impact.

As Africans and Ugandans, we cannot afford to fall behind as the world economy continues to expand and change quickly. We must embrace new technologies, creative ideas, and ongoing learning if we want to prosper and remain competitive. We can make sure that we not only stay up to date with global trends but also actively contribute to determining the direction of the economy by encouraging an attitude of adaptability and upskilling. Africa needs to realise its full potential and bring about long-lasting change on the global scene.
